Niccolò Toniolo 5D PNI – On the 28th of October 2011 Mrs Laura Boldrini held a lecture in our school, dealing with her new book: Tutti Indietro.
The title concerns the law passed (emanated) in 2009, which established that all unauthorized boats would be driven back.
But the title, said Boldrini, has also another meaning: if we (Italians) support this law, we will betray our origins and go “ all backwards”.
After she had explained the main theme of her book, Laura Boldrini started telling the story of the protagonist and she used his character to make an example of what people who are forced (obliged) to run away from their countries really feel and stand.
She talked also about the differences between political refugees and immigrants, in fact the former have no alternative but to flee their countries, while the latter can make a choice.
In my opinion Boldrini’s lecture was very interesting, because it gave us a view of our country’s home and foreign policy.
Sean Reinhart 5D PNI – On Friday, October the 28th, a meeting with Laura Boldrini took place in the school conference room (Aula Magna): she is an Italian journalist and the spokeswoman for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
She presented us her book Tutti Indietro. This book is about Sayed, an eleven-year old boy fleeing Afghanistan, and about immigrants in general: Sayed arrived in Italy after nine years of travel and unpleasant adventures.
According to Mrs. Boldrini, we Italians do not distinguish between immigrants or refugees, in our opinion they are all illegal immigrants and we do not want them in our country. I think the lecture was not educational, because Mrs. Boldrini just advertised her book, generalizing this problem, that should be analyzed into depth.
